More big orders placed by AIDA Cruises (Rostock) are filling Meyer Werft's order books until 2013.

Building the club ships for the AIDA fleet has contributed to a high utilisation rate at the shipyard. “We are very pleased with these contracts, which are extremely important for us. It took us almost two years to win them, and we had to face fierce competition on the way. Now we are glad that we are the ones who will build these new, sophisticated ships for the German cruise market”, said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of Meyer Werft, in 2004.

Each ship will have a length of more than 250 meters and a breadth of more than 30 meters, being longer than two football fields. The new club ships are already the third generation of AIDA cruise liners. Passengers on these ships will find a lot of new features as well as innovative technology. It is understood that these ships will also feature the well-known red lips on their bows.

The AIDA ships are powered by four large diesel engines and will achieve a speed of 22 knots, or approx. 40 km/h. More than 2,000 passengers can be accommodated in more than 1,000 cabins.
