From 1995 to this day Meyer Werft has delivered five Century and Solstice class cruise liners to the American cruise company Celebrity Cruises. Until 1996 the "Mercury" and the "Galaxy" were the biggest cruise ships built in Germany, which was a great success for Meyer Werft. With a fleet of 11 ships, Celebrity Cruises has one of the most modern fleets worldwide. The company was founded in 1989 and became an affiliated company of Royal Caribbean Cruise Line in 1997. Their ships call at ports in 150 destinations all over the world. The spas and sports facilities on board count among the biggest and best equipped. From 2008 to 2011 another one of four cruise ships, the Solstice class, will follow – a lot of work for Meyer Werft's staff of 2,500 workers. The new liners will be the biggest ever built for Celebrity Cruises. The ships will accommodate more than 2,800 passengers, have a length overall of 315 m, a breadth of 36.8 m, and a tonnage of 122,000 gt, which makes them Post-Panmax size.
